Bursaries & Internships

The Trust is pleased to support a selection of bursaries and internships. We are currently accepting applications for 2017/18.

UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER
The Country House: Art, Literature & History MA Bursaries

There are two half fee bursaries available for the campus based MA, starting in September 2017. Applicants must send a CV along with a covering letter outlining why they wish to apply for the course and how the bursary would assist them financially to Professor Phillip Lindley (pgl1@leicester.ac.uk), copying it to Lamport Hall (admin@lamporthall.co.uk).

Deadline: 31st August 2017

There is also a half fee bursary available for the distance learning MA, starting in February 2017. Applicants will be asked to submit a short essay on a given topic. Interested parties should contact Professor Phillip Lindley (pgl1@leicester.ac.uk), copying it to Lamport Hall (admin@lamporthall.co.uk).

The Country House: Art, Literature & History MA Internship

This internship has been created to assist a student both financially and to give them experience to start them off in their career aspirations by gaining practical knowledge and experience working in an historic house on a country estate.

The intern will be expected to enter fully into life at Lamport Hall and work with the Executive Director and his staff for 2 days a week during the winter rising to 3 days a week during the summer season. The Intern must be adaptable and willing to ‘pitch in’ and work at all levels.

The Intern will be provided with a large private bed-sitting room in Flat 3 but may have to share a kitchen and bathroom. This accommodation is free of rent and Council Tax and has free background heating. Electricity will have to be paid for and also a TV Licence, if required. The intern will need a car to get to the University in Leicester as Lamport is a rural location and public transport is limited. In addition to free accommodation for the year, Lamport Hall will contribute towards the Intern’s basic course fee.

The internship will only be offered to a candidate who has secured a place on the Masters course with the Centre for the Study of the Country House at the University of Leicester.

History MA Internship

This internship has been created by the Lamport Hall Preservation Trust to assist a student at the University of Leicester reading for one of the MA programmes offered by the Department of History both financially and to give them experience working in an historic house on a country estate.

The intern will be expected to enter fully into life at Lamport Hall. Two days per week will be expected during the winter, rising to three days after Easter. The Intern must be adaptable and willing to ‘pitch in’ and work at all levels.
