Lamport’s Christmas Lecture: An Art Historian’s Advent Calendar
Thursday 5th December 2019
6.30pm for 7.00pm start
Dr Conny Bailey: An Art Historian’s Advent Calendar
Dr Conny Bailey from the University of Leicester will be delivering a treat at Lamport Hall this Christmas with our first Christmas lecture.
On the twentieth day before Christmas, Lamport Hall presents….
A light-hearted look at some of the more recognisable and some less common Christmas imagery, viewed through the eyes of art historian Dr. Conny Bailey. Loosely themed around the popular Twelve Days of Christmas carol (musical audience participation will be encouraged), Conny will take you on a journey through Christmas imagery past and present, traditional and quirky to set a festive, sometimes reflective, but mainly entertaining tone for Lamport Hall’s very first Christmas opening. To find out what links Scotland’s favourite minister with Germany’s deepest pine forests and cherry blossom to Christmas Eve, how some subtly placed snow can turn the narrative of a Victorian painting on it’s head, or how Anthony Gormley’s Angel of the North ‘dresses’ for the festive days, join us at Lamport Hall on 05 December 2019. This will be a festive event with the Hall decorated and open for Christmas for the first time!
Refreshments served from 6.30pm event starts at 7.00pm.
