Dr Corinne Fowler – The Colonial Secrets of England’s Country Houses

In this fascinating lecture, Dr. Corinne Fowler details the colonial connections of historic houses throughout England and Wales from Tudor times to the British empire’s last days. These links are multiple and varied, and tell a range of stories about black servants, East India Company men and house owners with links to transatlantic slavery. Corinne is an Associate Professor at the University of Leicester. She directs the Colonial Countryside project: a child-led history and writing project which has commissioned new writing about the topic.
